It may help explain why some viewers (or, perhaps, the gaming audience) continue to complain about the gender balance in such films (and why some people don't find certain elements enjoyable because of it). If women can't get over being represented in the male characters, they will not be allowed to see much of the male characters in the movie.

If these examples were not enough, there is still nothing wrong with a male character acting, with his or her ability to portray a certain character for which there's not a clear gender balance. But that's just bad design. This film is nothing like the "I'm a male," "I'm a female" films of the past.

One, I really didn't notice that male characters are often portrayed in this way, until after the release of the teaser trailer. I should have noted this and asked if there were any similarities between this particular film and movies like The Matrix. Sure enough, some of the male characters in the film use very "male" pronouns because they are the ones using those terms and because some movies use the wrong pronouns for many of them (see my review of the Matrix). The difference lies in how men are portrayed.

2. Some have tried to paint a darker picture of this movie. I am more than pleased to report that even this negative image that exists is mostly created by someone who has no previous experience with male characters.
