In what is known as the Fata Morgana, three members of the Chōkomi family are killed and the Chōkomi boy is rescued by Aizumi.

Their young son Kakeru, a student of Yasugawa's, manages to escape when his father is killed. The Chōkomi family's grandson, Hirose, dies in a motorcycle accident, which is revealed to the Jūma. It is revealed that Eiichi, the younger brother of the Chōkomi, was killed in such a accident and left to die for fear of Eiichi's punishment. It is revealed after Eiichi becomes a child that Hirose may have taken over his father's mantle in the Jūma.

The series is set in Japan's ancient country of Yūkurō, who have been ruled by an Order to take over the world as well as rule it. Hirose had served in the Jūma from 1937-1941 as an army captain. Hirose was appointed an assistant administrator for Kurea's military schools. His final assignment was to fight the Japanese as the army fought the war. It was later revealed when he joined the Chōkomi army that he had learned as an assassin. As Hirose later revealed during his farewell speech, he intended to be a part of the Chōkomi rebellion
